Kicheche Bush Camp - Day 3 AM (Cheetah Special)

Between meeting the man walking his cow and the Cape Buffalo we went on a quest to try and find the cheetah with the two 6 month(ish) cubs and luckily for us Nelson's superb guiding skills lead us more or less straight to them.

Although the cubs looked like they'd eaten yesterday, Nelson said that Mum looked very hungry indeed and she was clearly on the lookout for a kill.

The cubs still have some of their baby fur, but the colouring is now pure cheetah, whereas when they are born they are much darker and mimic the colouring of the Honey Badger in order to deter predators (honey badgers, not that we've ever seen one, are notoriously ferocious).

And they do love to play.

Thirsty or just admiring her own reflection?

The two scamps then attempted tree climbing.

Drinking from the smallest, muddiest pool around.

Photo bombed by a cheetah cub.

An invitation to follow if ever there was one.

Mum then trotted off and we thought she was going for some nearby impala but she'd obviously decided to play the long game and settled down in some bushes nearby.

Although they are still too young to be involved in a hunt/kill, clearly this one is beginning to imitate mum.

"I do wish that wretched woman would put her camera down!"
